The Library Feature
In today’s time, teachers want something that is more than news reading for students that turns them into great readers and critical thinkers. Recently, Newsela comes out with a Library, which facilitates students to take their reading skills on a next level since it offers something beyond news. It is a new feature that consists an array of primary source material, historical and biographical content adapted to different reading levels in both English and Spanish. Reading the material in the Newsela Library is in reference to the media and pop culture. Such documents are challenging and hence, it takes reading to a completely advanced level for students.

Newsela helps teachers to keep a track on their students’ progress as they work through different reading materials and assessments as well as identify their challenges, either individually or as a class. The startup aims to improve reading comprehension, knowledge acquisition and reading motivation among students of different abilities.
Till date, its dedicated app has managed to pull a significant user base of 8 lakh teachers and 7.7 million students. Matthew Gross is the CEO and Co-founder of Newsela. Besides Library, Newsela has enhanced its ‘Pro’ homepage and service for teachers in districts or schools that subscribe to the premium version of the app.
The startup operates as a for-profit but mission-based venture. Talking about its financial backers, it includes a mix of tech and education specialized investors like KPCB and Owl Ventures. Till date, Newsela has raised $22.16 million in venture funding.
